View Areas
View areas allow you to capture and analyze specific camera streams. This is essential for multi-sensor cameras, quad views, and PTZ preset positions.
Understanding View Areas
What Are View Areas?
View areas are different streams from the same camera:
- Single-sensor cameras: Usually just View Area 1
- Multi-sensor cameras: Multiple independent views (1-4 typically)
- PTZ cameras: Preset positions as view areas
View Area Numbering
| View Area | Typical Use |
|---|---|
| 1 | Primary/default view |
| 2 | Secondary stream |
| 3-4 | Additional streams |
| 5-8 | PTZ presets or specialized views |
Camera Types and View Areas
Single-Sensor Cameras
Most cameras have one sensor with one view:
- Use View Area 1
- Different resolution streams available
- Same physical view
Multi-Sensor Cameras
Cameras with multiple lenses/sensors:
| Camera Type | View Areas |
|---|---|
| Dual-head | 2 views |
| Quad-sensor | 4 views |
| Panoramic | 1-4 (depending on model) |
| Fisheye | 1 + dewarped views |
PTZ Cameras
PTZ cameras can capture from preset positions:
- Configure presets on camera
- Map presets to view areas
- Anava captures from selected preset
Configuring View Areas
In Profile Settings
- Open profile configuration
- Find View Area setting
- Select appropriate view area (1-8)
- Save profile
Matching to Camera Streams
Check camera documentation for stream mapping:
Example: AXIS P3245-V
├── View Area 1: Stream 1 (Full resolution)
├── View Area 2: Stream 2 (Secondary)
└── View Area 3: Not available
Multiple Profiles per Camera
Create separate profiles for different view areas:
Profile 1:
Name: "Front Entrance - Main View"
View Area: 1
Skill: Entrance Security
Profile 2:
Name: "Front Entrance - Side View"
View Area: 2
Skill: Entrance Security
Multi-Sensor Camera Setup
Example: Quad-Sensor Camera
Camera: AXIS P3807-PVE (180° Panoramic)

Configuration Strategy
- Identify each sensor's coverage
- Create skills for each area type
- Create profiles matching view areas
- Assign to same group
Example Configuration
Group: Building Entrance Complex
Cameras: AXIS P3807-PVE (1 physical camera)
Skills:
- Parking Security
- Entrance Security
- Loading Dock Security
Profiles:
- View 1 → Parking Security
- View 2 → Entrance Security
- View 3 → Entrance Security
- View 4 → Loading Dock Security
PTZ Camera Configuration
Setting Up PTZ Presets
- Access camera web interface
- Navigate to PTZ → Presets
- Move camera to desired position
- Save preset with descriptive name
- Note preset number for Anava
Mapping Presets to View Areas
| Preset | View Area | Coverage |
|---|---|---|
| Preset 1 | View Area 1 | Main entrance |
| Preset 2 | View Area 2 | Parking lot overview |
| Preset 3 | View Area 3 | Side entrance |
Guard Tour Consideration
If using guard tours:
- PTZ cycles through presets automatically
- Anava captures from current position
- Consider dedicated preset profiles
Best Practices
Coverage Planning
- Map physical areas to view areas
- Create appropriate skills for each
- Avoid overlapping analysis
- Document view area assignments
Naming Conventions
Include view area in profile names:
| Good | Avoid |
|---|---|
| "Entrance-V1-Security" | "Profile 1" |
| "Parking-V2-Vehicle" | "Camera East" |
Resolution Considerations
| View Area Purpose | Recommended Resolution |
|---|---|
| Overview | BALANCED |
| Detail (faces, plates) | HIGH or HD_720 |
| Wide area | LOW or BALANCED |
Performance
- Higher view area count = more processing
- Balance coverage vs resources
- Consider which views need continuous analysis
Troubleshooting
Wrong View Area Captured
-
Verify camera stream mapping
- Check camera documentation
- Test in camera web interface
-
Check profile configuration
- Confirm View Area setting matches intent
-
Test with different view areas
- Some cameras number differently
View Area Not Available
-
Camera doesn't support
- Single-sensor camera has only View Area 1
- Check camera specifications
-
Stream not configured
- Multi-stream cameras may need stream setup
- Configure in camera settings
PTZ Not at Preset
-
Guard tour active
- May capture from moving position
- Consider disabling tour or timing
-
Preset not defined
- Verify preset exists on camera
- Check preset number mapping
