Axis Camera Station Integration

This guide explains how to configure Axis Camera Station (ACS) to receive and respond to Anava detection events. As both Anava and ACS are Axis-native, integration is straightforward.

Prerequisites

  • Axis Camera Station 5.x installed
  • Cameras added to ACS with Anava ACAP installed
  • Anava skills and profiles configured

Understanding Anava Events in ACS

Anava emits ONVIF events that ACS receives through its native event system.

Axis Camera Station event flow for Anava ONVIF events

Step 1: Verify Camera in ACS

Ensure cameras are properly configured:

  1. Open Axis Camera Station Client
  2. Go to ConfigurationDevicesCameras
  3. Verify camera status is "Online"
  4. Check that ACAP applications are visible

Step 2: View Available Events

  1. Go to ConfigurationRecording and eventsAction rules
  2. Click New to create a rule
  3. In trigger selection, you'll see Anava events listed under the camera
Event Discovery

Anava events appear after the first detection is sent. Trigger a test detection if events aren't visible yet.

Step 3: Create Action Rules

  1. ConfigurationRecording and eventsAction rules
  2. Click New to create a rule

Example: Record on Detection

Rule Name: Anava - Record on Person Detection

Trigger:

  • Type: Device event
  • Device: [Select camera]
  • Event: Select Anava event (e.g., "Person")
  • Condition: State = Active (True)

Action:

  • Type: Record
  • Profile: High quality
  • Pre-buffer: 5 seconds
  • Post-buffer: 30 seconds

Stop:

  • Same trigger with State = Inactive (False)

Example: PTZ Response

Rule Name: Anava - PTZ to Detection Area

Trigger:

  • Event: Anava "Person" detection
  • State: Active

Action:

  • Type: Go to PTZ preset
  • Camera: [PTZ camera]
  • Preset: [Detection preset]

Example: Audio Alert

Rule Name: Anava - Audio Warning

Trigger:

  • Event: Anava detection (any configured object)
  • State: Active
  • Schedule: After hours

Action:

  • Type: Play audio clip
  • Camera: [Camera with speaker]
  • Clip: "Warning: You are in a restricted area"

Example: Email Notification

Rule Name: Anava - Email Security Team

Trigger:

  • Event: Anava "Weapon" detection
  • State: Active

Action:

  • Type: Send email
  • Recipients: security@company.com
  • Subject: "ALERT: Potential weapon detected"
  • Include: Snapshot, camera name, timestamp

Step 4: Configure Schedules

Apply time-based restrictions to rules:

  1. Go to ConfigurationRecording and eventsSchedules

  2. Create schedules:

    • Business Hours: Mon-Fri 8am-6pm
    • After Hours: All other times
    • Always: 24/7
  3. Apply schedules to action rules

Step 5: Test the Integration

  1. Trigger an Anava detection

  2. Verify in ACS:

    • Event appears in Alarms tab
    • Recording is created
    • Any configured actions execute
  3. Check timeline for recorded events

Advanced Configuration

Alarm Handling

Configure alarms for priority events:

  1. Go to ConfigurationRecording and eventsAlarms
  2. Create alarm configuration
  3. Link to action rule with "Raise alarm" action

Multiple Camera Rules

Create rules that span multiple cameras:

  1. In trigger, select multiple cameras
  2. Use consistent Anava object names across groups
  3. Apply appropriate actions per camera

I/O Integration

Combine Anava with physical I/O:

Rule: Door Contact + Person Detection

  • Trigger 1: Anava "Person" detected
  • Trigger 2: Door I/O port active
  • Combined: Both must be true
  • Action: High-priority alarm

AXIS Secure Entry Integration

For access control systems:

  1. Link Anava detections to door actions
  2. Create verification workflows
  3. Log access events with Anava context

Troubleshooting

Events Not Appearing

  1. Check ACAP is running

    • Go to camera web interface → Apps
    • Verify AnavaAgent is running
  2. Refresh camera in ACS

    • Right-click camera → Refresh
    • Wait for capability refresh
  3. Check Anava configuration

    • Verify objects are stateful
    • Check profile is active

Action Rules Not Triggering

  1. Verify rule is enabled

    • Enabled rules show checkmark
    • Disabled rules show X
  2. Check schedule

    • Ensure current time is within schedule
  3. Verify trigger conditions

    • State must match (Active/Inactive)
    • Event name must exactly match

Recording Issues

  1. Check storage

    • Verify recording storage is available
    • Check disk space
  2. Check recording profile

    • Ensure profile is configured for camera

Best Practices

Rule Organization

  • Use clear, descriptive names
  • Group rules by purpose
  • Document rule logic

Performance

  • Limit simultaneous high-quality recordings
  • Use appropriate pre/post buffer
  • Archive old recordings

Maintenance

  • Review rules quarterly
  • Test after ACS updates
  • Keep documentation current
