Get started with Anava Edge

Anava Edge puts Anava on the Axis cameras you already own. Sign up free, install one Chrome extension, and Edge finds your cameras and installs Anava on them. There is no card to enter and no activation code to copy.

Start here: edge.anava.ai

It takes about 5 minutes.

What you need

  • An Axis camera on AXIS OS 12. Read the chip family and firmware under System → About in the camera's web UI. When you add cameras, Edge tells you if one cannot be installed, and why.
  • The camera's admin username and password. The username is usually root.
  • Google Chrome on a Windows or Mac desktop computer, on the same network as the camera. Safari, Firefox, phones and tablets cannot install cameras.
  • A Google account, to sign up.
  • A small helper app. The Anava Local Connector is a Chrome extension that drives a small helper app on your computer. The helper app is what reaches cameras on your local network. The extension walks you through installing it.

Three steps

1. Create your free workspace

Open edge.anava.ai and choose Sign up. Sign in with Google and accept the terms. Your workspace is ready as soon as you are in.

2. Install the Anava Local Connector

When Edge asks you to add a camera, it asks for the connector first:

  1. Open the Anava Local Connector listing and click Add to Chrome.
  2. Click the extension's icon and install the Local Connector app it offers. The app is signed by Anava. On macOS, allow it under System Settings → Privacy & Security if it is blocked.
  3. Return to Edge and allow the site when the extension asks. Edge shows the connector as connected.

The connector only talks to cameras on your local network while you are using Edge in Chrome. It does not run in the background otherwise.

3. Let Edge find and install your cameras

Edge scans your network for Axis cameras. Choose the ones you want, or enter a camera's IP address if it is not listed, then enter the camera's admin username and password.

Edge installs Anava on each camera and adds it to your workspace. That install is the claim. There is no code to type and no second step: when the camera checks in, it is yours. Edge shows it as online on your Devices page.

What Edge and Hybrid Edge include

Edge is free. Add every Axis camera you have. Rules run on the camera itself and use no tokens: people, vehicles, bikes, motion and license plates, plus timed captures. Video stays on the camera. Every match is an event in Live events, with the frames read straight from the camera.

Hybrid Edge adds cloud AI, so you can detect anything you can describe in your own words and respond in real time: an And if check in the cloud, email alerts, spoken talk-down and enriching past events. It starts with a free trial, started from inside Edge from any Hybrid Edge feature, and needs no card. After the trial, Hybrid Edge is bought through Google Cloud Marketplace. Your Edge rules keep running on the camera either way.

If something does not work

  • Edge says the extension is not installed, or is out of date. Install or update it from the Chrome Web Store listing above, then reload Edge.
  • Edge says the Local Connector app is not running. Open the extension's icon and install or start the app, then reload Edge.
  • Your camera does not appear in the scan. Confirm the computer and the camera are on the same network, then enter the camera's IP address by hand.
  • The camera does not accept the password. Re-enter the camera's admin username and password.
