Deploy Anava Edge

Anava Edge is an app that runs on your Axis camera. It detects people and vehicles, reads plates on ARTPEC-8 and ARTPEC-9 cameras, and runs your rules at the camera, so the video stays where it is recorded. Free Edge needs no account on the camera and no internet connection. You install it once per camera, from a package file with the extension .eap.

This guide set shows how to get that package onto one camera or a whole fleet, and how to copy the same settings to all of them.

Choose your method

Two methods cover almost every site. Pick one.

You can mix them. Setting up one camera by hand first, then copying its settings to the rest with AXIS Device Manager, works well.

Also in this set:

Internet is only needed on the PC where you download the package. The camera itself never needs it for Free Edge.

Requirements

  • An Axis camera on AXIS OS 11 or 12. AXIS OS 12 is recommended.
  • AXIS OS 12 installs signed apps only. Anava packages are signed.
  • The package that matches the camera's chip and AXIS OS version. The download page picks it from the camera model. To pick by hand, use the table below.
  • The camera's administrator account (usually root).

Which package fits which camera

Read the chip family and the AXIS OS version under System, then About, in the camera's web page. Download the Free Edge package, the file whose name ends in _free-edge.eap.

Not supported yet: CV25, S5 and S5L (the package does not fit on CV25, and the app does not start on S5 or S5L), ARTPEC-6, and any camera on AXIS OS 10.

Get the package

  1. Go to anava.ai/download.
  2. Sign in with Google or your work email, and agree to the license. The sign-in is for the download only; the camera never needs it.
  3. Choose the package for your camera's chip and AXIS OS version.
  4. Download the .eap file.

If you will push settings to many cameras, you make the settings file later, from the console on one camera. The method guide shows how.

After the install

  1. Make sure the app is running. In the camera's web page, Apps shows its status.
  2. Open the console. In Apps, select Anava Agent, then Open. Or type http://<camera-ip>/local/AnavaAgent/web/ in your browser. See Open and sign in to the console.
  3. Set up one reference camera there. You can copy its settings to every other camera with a configuration file. Each method page shows how.

Upgrades and settings

Upgrading, reinstalling the same version and installing an older version all keep the app's settings. Only removing the app clears them. To start over, remove the app, then install it again.
